New Angels (and why I'm so excited about them)

New Angels (and why I'm so excited about them)

For as long as I can remember Angels have fascinated me. I don't come to them from a particular faith, although I can appreciate how they have been created in many artforms by many differing belief systems and cultures.

To me Angels remain fundamentally messengers and have formed the basis of many areas of my creative explorations for years. I love the idea of grumpy, cross, haughty or cheeky angels as much as pious or gently sleeping ones. I have drawn, designed and made literally 100’s over the years, many of then in textile form under the name PollyWhistle. And in selling these I have been rewarded with many beautiful stories from the people who have bough and even commissioned them. Tales of why, where and for who they are intended allowing me glimpses into peoples relationships with loved ones.

I know there is an Angel that sits and crossly watches BBC's Question Time and there are a bright and jolly pair representing two sisters (with very induvial styles). One had a nose that reminded someone of their recently deceased mother and a series of three were used to peep out of books to surprise visitors to a large home, that hid in books around a large home,

I'm still so delighted to know that many of these Angels have been used to send messages to someone special, most particularly that "I'm thinking of you" one.

For 2024 I have created new angels in collage and hand painted elements. They represent the convergence of my illustration / art work with my textile work created as PollyWhistle. There are framed originals and greetings cards available and I'll be curious to know where they go and maybe why too.
