Colour and Connections

Colour and Connections

Everyone must have aspects of their lives that take a lot of juggling. Or perhaps you feel more like you are trying to keep multiple plates spinning at once like in those vintage magic tricks. I often feel like this about the multiple ideas and projects I have going at once.

The word I have chosen as my guiding word for 2025 is Connections. I choose one each year and find having it written on my wall helps to focus my mind. For example last it was narrative which meant a large of variety of things to me from incorporating stories into my work and descriptions of my work to changing the narrative of my life (i.e. addressing the flaws and failings I perceived as being a fundamental part of me). These chosen words have proven to be quiet partners, whispering directions or offering support when I am losing focus or feel overwhelmed.

I have begun to find that what I previously perceived as quite disparate areas of my work and projects that outwardly seem very far apart are actually connected by one central theme. This is something I have been trying to clarify in my thinking for a long time and it feels like this might be the year it comes together in a pattern I can actually see.

I am also applying for more events to build on what I achieved last year, especially those that offer me chance to connect with other creatives and buyers of my work. There are many others connections I am planning right now which will no doubt come out as I share like this and on Instagram across the year.

Right now I am going back to my research on sunflowers and how that is connected the the My Mother's Vases project of 2024, the Perfect Cuppa project I mentioned in my last post and the Wild Flowers project I am ruminating concurrently. Its a grey day but the colours of my research are keeping me happy. I hope you have similar connections to colour or ideas that do the same for you.
